Cai Rang Floating Market is the first destination of the day for many of the Mekong Delta’s locals, who make their way to the Can Tho River to buy produce, clothing, electronics and practically anything that can fit onto a boat. This tour heads out onto the river and explores the fascinating scene available here, before heading to a nearby village to learn of the processes that go into creating rice noodles – a staple of the Vietnamese diet.

Itinerary

We leave Can Tho Ecolodge via a private sampan boat on the Ba Lang River. Joining the Can Tho River to the north, we are soon greeted with the lively picture of local trading across wooden rowboats and motorised tin boats. We spend time discovering how this ancient market operates and grabbing some great local deals on food, crafts and beyond.

After this, we make our way onto land and finish our tour with a visit to a local village. This small commune has spent hundreds of years perfecting the art of making rice noodles, available to see in a process involving rice grinding, mixing with starch and cutting sundried rice pancakes into strips.
